ANNOUNCEMENT of the "AGRONOMISTS OF THE WORLD"

On Sunday April 10, 2011 the «AGRONOMISTS OF THE WORLD» will be present in Dystos village of Evoia Island (South of Chalkis) to participate in the “traditional seed exchange event without money…” The event is organized by the local Environmental conservation association of Dystos in Cooperation with “Peliti” a very known and progressive NGO in Greece active nationwide for the protection of agricultural biodiversity and of endangered traditional crop varieties, herbs, ornamentals and other plant species.
Agricultural biodiversity is a broad term that includes all components of biological diversity of relevance to food and agriculture, and all components of biological diversity that constitute the agro-ecosystem.
The Earth’s biodiversity is being lost at an alarming rate, putting in jeopardy the sustainability of agriculture and ecosystem services and their ability to adapt to changing conditions, threatening food and livelihoods security.

The “AGRONOMISTS OF THE WORLD” will be represented by the following:

Dr Stamatis Sekliziotis, Ag. Specialist & Landscape Architect, President of the Board AGWO (PhD, Birmingham UK)

Dr N. Panopoulos, Member of the Board AGWO, Professor in Biology, University of Crete (PhD, Berkeley USA)

Mr. Evaggelos Avdelas, Ag Specialist, Member of AGWO, Vice-President of the Environmental conservation association of Dystos, Organizer of the event.
